Dena Aronson is a digital filmmaker, musician, photographer and educator. Her work has taken her from the neighborhoods of Milwaukee to the hills of San Francisco to Germany, Mexico and the Middle East. Engaged primarily by the not-for-profit and arts communities, her work reflects her personal commitment to the environment, women’s health, social justice, global peace, education and the arts.

Dena’s work includes:

  • A multi-media commission from the Pittsburgh based Ixtlan Artists Group for the Lakota Performing Arts Ensemble's piece, The Drum is the Thunder, Flute is the Wind.
  • A documentary produced along with photographer John Rubartsch on the life and work of conservationist Ernest Oberholtzer, one of the founding members of The Wilderness Society and whose efforts were largely responsible for preserving the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota.
  • A collaboration with NYC classical music composer Patrick Zimmerli on the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Quadracci Pavilion designed by Santiago Calatrava.
  • A piece about Leonard Bernstein’s life and work for a tribute performed at the Skylight Comic Opera Theater Company.
  • She is currently working on pieces for Milwaukee Public Theatre, Growing Power and Will Allen

Dena has an extensive body of work within the dance community including Ko-Thi Dance Company, Wild Space Dance Company and Dancer/Choreographer Tom Thoreson.

As an educator Dena has taught Film and Video at:

  • Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH
  • UW-Milwaukee Film Program
  • Alverno College, Milwaukee, WI

Dena brings a level of creativity, enthusiasm and artistry to all of her projects. She loves her work — it keeps her thriving and constantly living an adventure.
